Don Senior, Wawata

Marine Evolutions has collaborated with the very best of New Zealand's Marine Industry to showcase a superb example of outstanding craftsmanship, combined with world class materials to produce Wawata.

Based on the Legendary Don Senior Hull design it combines stability and sea worthiness with planning efficiency and ideally suited for NZ waters.

Wawata is built from cold-molded marine plywood with decks and superstructure laminated from ply-foam-ply or reinforced fiberglass and foam. The vessel’s high-quality interior, featuring ziricote, teak, bleached oak and Kyoto timbers and veneers – Oberflex, Greenlam, Laminex and Formica laminates – and Casamace, Sunbrella, Ultrafabrics and Elitis fabrics. All an ode to the craftsmanship of the builders.

The vast transom doubles as an exterior galley; large aft-facing stainless steel BBQ complete with stainless-steel bench, sink with hot and cold water, splashback and secure gas bottle storage.

Stepping through the tri-fold glass and anodised aluminum doors you are greeted by the aft appointed galley that features Oberflex cabinetry, Bosch appliances (including a full-sized domestic fridge-freezer) and a pull-out pantry.

The owners’ cabin in the bow is the largest and takes full advantage of opening ports and overhead hatches, complete with master ensuite.

To port a large, double cabin features a good-sized double berth bathed in light shining through an opaque skylight from the saloon. To starboard the second guest cabin features one fore and aft single berth and a second berth lying across the beam, tucked into an alcove at the rear of the cabin.

Unsurprisingly, the helm console is clean and uncluttered, dominated by three 15-inch Raymarine MFDs. Wawata operates with Raymarine’s Empire Bus system, including digital switching control and remote access via smartphone with SMS alerts. Electrically operated OceanAir blinds mean the flybridge can be utilized for sleeping: it provides four six-foot berths extending inside the flybridge ‘eyebrow’.
